Cycle Canada's Cariboo Trail Bicycle Touring Route - The Itinerary
On day one of Cycle Canada's Cariboo Trail you will travel in farm country for half the day and then closer to the river as the valley narrows. Mid-day, we recommend a stop at the Hatzic Indian site, where you can gain insights into the aboriginal culture of this region. The first nights recommended stay is in the village of Harrison, which is famous locally for its hot springs.
Here you will see two personalities of the Fraser River. From a gently-flowing delta region to the wild fast flowing sections near Hell's Gate. Along the way you will pass by ancient salmon fishing sites and see remnants of the gold rush trail.
It's a short day to Lytton, the white water rafting capital of North America. Riders can relax in the pool and hot tub in a pictureque setting overlooking the White Canyon or take an optional white water rafting trip on the Thompson River.
Since the second day of the trip, the route has been on a busy road, the shoulders are good, but there are a series of tunnels where riders have to take care. After Lytton we peel off onto a quiet road that takes us into cowboy country.

At this point riders can chose between a route to the west or north. The rourte west climbs to get to the Highland Valley and cap off the day's ride with a 17 kilometre (10 mile) descent into Ashcroft. The eastern option takes us to Merritt and onto Kamploops.
Following the western route, from Ashcroft, we'll head to Lilloet through the spectacular Marble Canyon. This Canyon ride starts at the historic Hat Creek Ranch, and ends in Lillooet which was a major staging area for the Cariboo gold rush.
