Cycle Canada Employment Opportunities - Summer 2008

Cycle Canada, The Veloforce Corporation is a Canadian company that has been conducting cycling tours throughout Canada since 1988.

We will be looking for a number of people who will assist with our 2008 schedule of cycling events.

Positions are for sixteen weeks during the summer. Room and board for the entire summer is included as an additional taxable benefit (mainly camping, although there is some indoor accommodation). These positions are open to Canadian citizens or applicants with valid working visas. All positions are very challenging and require excellent interpersonal skills and a high degree of maturity. There is lifting and other physical effort involved. A clean driving record is imperative for all successful applicants. Candidates must be insurable for driving. For some positions, knowledge of a second language, particularly French, is helpful.

Candidates interested in pursuing a career in tourism, recreation or sports management may be particularly interested in these positions.

Positions - Bicycle Tour Support (1 position)

Job Description: Supporting cross Canada bicycle tours.

Duties begin with an outfitting of the support vehicle in the Toronto area (a 5 tonne truck with a 5 or 6 speed transmission, cube van with automatic transmission or half tonne truck towing a trailer). Employee will drive the vehicle to Vancouver or other point for the start of the event(s), then drive ahead to each night-time stop during a predetermined riding schedule for the tour. At the end of the tour the employee will return the vehicle to Toronto and disassemble shelving units built into the van for the trip and assist with general clean-up. Employee is responsible for the general security of the vehicle which includes galley and other company supplies. Additional duties include purchasing provisions for the group and maintaining a detailed accounting ledger.

Required skills and experience: Class G (or equivalent for other provinces) driver's licence; strong interpersonal skills. Applicants should have or should obtain experience in driving a cube van or similar large vehicle. Some positions involve food preparation and clean up but for all positions skills and training in food handling and purchasing is helpful. Courses in health and safety such as CPR are an asset. The positions do not involve riding a bicycle. Candidates should enjoy outdoor living and have a desire to see Canada.

Employment Period: Most positions are for approximately sixteen weeks during the summer commencing May 17, 2008. There may be some opportunities for a shorter work term. The first week(s) of the employment period will be for training and equipment preparation. Employee will also assist at May long weekend cycling event.
