The first control is at Erin which is 83.6 kilometres into the ride. Riders didn't quite make the control point before the rain came down. Here Eric Fergusson, whose home club is the B.C. Randonneurs, shows how well he handles the rain.

Rain or shine Lori is prepared to ride

Sag wagons or guide vehicles are only allowed on the route at control points. Riders are independent and draw on their own and other riders' resources to meet and complete the challenge. The evening before the event,
Lori James had heard the weather forcasts and decided to come prepared with her rain jacket. She still got wet but she was able to keep warm.
