Cycle Canada's Tour of the Trent Bicycle Touring Route - Itinerary
The starting point for Cycle Canada's self-guided Tour of the Trent is Midland, Ontario.
Our first days of riding travel through rolling farmlands, beside lake side resorts and through cottage country along Georgian Bay on Lake Huron. We'll follow the river system through the Canadian Shield and head overland to Orillia. Orillia borders Lakes Simcoe and Lake Couchiching and was the inspiration for Stephen Leacock's "Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town". Stephen Leacock is one of Canada's most famous authors and riders can visit his summer home in this lakeside town.
It will be a half day into the pretty village of Lakefield, in the heart of the Kawartha Lakes District. On this day riders can relax in town or vist the nationally acclaimed Canoe Museum or Hydraulic Lift locks in Peterborough. And for the more energetic there are optional day rides to Buckhorn, known for its local crafts, the Lang Pioneer Village, Serpent Mounds or the Petroglyphs Provincial Parks.
From Lakefield we'll make our way to Campbellford where a visit to Ferris Park's new Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge is a must do. Then on to Lake Ontario and Prince Edward County. We'll travel through quaint villages and vast sandy beaches along the way to our final destination of Picton. Picton is becoming known for its burgeoning artistic community and wine production.
