Southern Ontario Century Ride
May 17 and 18, 2008, Toronto to Alliston to Toronto, 100 km or 100 miles per day.
Kick start your cycling season at the Southern Ontario Century Ride (SOCR), a classic cycling weekend held annually in May. Formerly known as Triple T this event is now in its third decade and SOCR has become a get-together of the cycling clans, attracting clubs and riders from Ontario, Quebec and U.S. border states.
SOCR marks the start of the summer cycling season. It's an out and back century ride from Toronto to Alliston. Each day there is a choice of rides between 100 km and 100 miles.
Cycle Canada's May long weekend event was first held in the spring of 1988 as a training weekend for the first Tour du Canada ride. In 2008 Tour du Canada celebrates its 20th anniversary. Since 1988 we have added a range of cycling events that discover more of Canada, offer shorter time frames and distances. Riders participating in these other great cycling adventures such as The BiQue Ride, Tour Pacific and the Voyaguer Route now join us to get ready for these holidays of discovery.
The weekend is a retreat to a quiet country setting and an opportunity for cyclists to socialize. The terrain on both routes is not difficult. Over the years, the age range of those riding with us on the May long weekend has been 8 to 80 plus.
The ride from Toronto, leaves from either York University or Finch Subway station both on the northern edge of the greater Toronto region. You'll travel along quiet rural roads and through small villages. Along the way, drop into a local bakery or visit the South Simcoe Railway with its two restored, authentic steam locomotives, built in 1883 and 1912.
